What is Imperial Moments?
Imperial Moments is a website and collection of short articles published by the DFG Research Training Group 2571 “Empires. Dynamic Change, Temporality and Post-Imperial Orders” at the University of Freiburg. It provides access to the Research Training Group’s research across different cultures and time periods.

The articles are authored by researchers from numerous disciplines in the humanities and social sciences affiliated with the Research Training Group. The multidisciplinary approach allows a wide historical outlook that stretches from Antiquity to the twenty-first century, as well as a transcultural perspective on empires and their concrete manifestations across time and space.

Imperial Moments is a work in progress. It only began in 2024 and it is hoped to continuously expand the number of articles. All content is made available to the public as a digital open access publication free of charge.

Currently, Imperial Moments is edited by Elisabeth Piller. For further information please see: https://www.grk2571.uni-freiburg.de

An article published in Imperial Moments is an academic publication that will appear under the author’s name. Each article is given a unique URL and a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to ensure that it can be cited academically without qualification. In cooperation with the University of Freiburg's institutional repository FreiDok plus, Imperial Moments guarantees that all published texts are stored long-term and error-free.

Imperial Moments makes articles available according to open access principles to support the free accessibility and global exchange of knowledge. To that end, all articles are published under the Creative Commons licence “Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)”.
